Research
Fieldwork for the camera study has begun
The new stage of the 2019 Rio Grande Birth Cohort uses wearable cameras to study interactions between mothers and children.
- How it works
- Mother and child play a game together wearing small cameras that record the play from each one’s point of view. Computational methods help turn what appears in the videos (face, gaze, gestures and speech) into research data. The aim is not to diagnose people from a video, but to produce research data on interactions.
- Designed with the families
- In workshops with Cohort mothers and children, we asked what we should observe in the interactions and how to improve the camera used in the study.
- Permission
- Recordings only happen with the families’ specific permission. Files are kept in a protected place, and only the authorised team has access.
